These caring individuals are the loyal and supportive “good samaritans”. They have a strong sense of social justice and although often quite introverted,
will passionately defend others whom they feel have been wronged. Sometimes over-sensitive, unifiers like it when everyone’s getting along and hate any kind of “atmosphere” – they crave harmony at all costs! At their best they are considerate and thoughtful peacemakers who always think of the needs of others. At their worst they can be real martyrs who sulk when criticized and can hold a grudge for years.
Caring, committed and loving individuals, unifiers represent the idealist personality type of the PURE system. Like examiners they are introverts, are averse to change, like security and think before they speak. Like persuaders they are relationship-oriented “people people” who like to work as a team of friendly individuals.
Unifiers love to make other people happy, sometimes to the point of making themselves feel unappreciated – they do so much for others and no one seems to notice . Often family-oriented, unifiers adopt the role of peacemakers and enjoy being involved in everyone else’s business, or at least knowing about it. They love to indulge in gossip and then feel guilty about having done so (whereas persuaders have no such qualms).
They are good at remembering birthdays and usually make themselves responsible for making sure everyone else has remembered too. They avoid conflict at all costs and although they may be polite to someone’s face, they can sometimes be quite rude about them behind their backs. Unifiers are the elephants of the PURE system – they may forgive, but they will never forget.
Easily upset you will definitely notice when a unifier has been hurt – although since they quite enjoy playing the martyr it can be tricky finding out exactly what it is that upset them in the first place!
Cartoon unifiers include Marge Simpson from The Simpsons and Bill Dauterive from King of the Hill, and in real-life Princess Diana and Al Gore.
